At Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, we design challenging curricula to engage the whole student. From thoughtful preparatory classes to rigorous honors and Advanced Placement courses, SHC’s learning infrastructure and integrated cocurriculars support curiosity, educational excellence and self-discovery. Our emphasis on learning based in strong relationships -- with fellow students, with knowledgeable teachers, and with the world -- as well as our dynamic blend of liberal arts, scientific inquiry, and research-based pedagogy help develop resourceful, independent thinkers. Our 75-minute block schedule facilitates project-based, collaborative learning while building college and career habits of mind. Continuing the Lasallian Vincentian tradition of transformative education, our private high school’s caring faculty nurture a life-long commitment to learning through vibrant academics and compassionate service to others.

Semesters at Our Private High School

The school year, divided into semesters, begins in late August and ends in early June with a Thanksgiving break, vacations at Christmas and Easter, and observance of national holidays. A typical school day at our private high school begins at 7:55 am and ends at 2:30 pm. Parents receive grades twice per semester, or approximately every nine weeks, and may view informal progress reports online through PowerSchool. The Honor Roll recognizes academic excellence based on grade point average. Conversely, students whose grades fall below a 2.0 (GPA), are placed on academic probation and may not participate in cocurricular activities. Students take a minimum of six courses each semester.
